Legal Action Worldwide

Project title: LAW Rohingya children and genocide report.

I was asked recently to design a report for Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) who improve access to justice to the most vulnerable in conflict-affected and fragile regions. This report focussed on the impact on displaced children within the Rohingya community in both Myanmar (and now Bangladesh as refugees) following wide-spread abuse and genocide by the ruling Myanmar military government.

The creative idea that I had was simple, and was inspired by one of the pull-out quotes which now features on the front cover below; 'They wanted to erase us'. The Myanmar military government did (and continue to) want to wipe out an entire ethnic group with their treatment of the Rohingya, clearly meeting the definition of 'genocide'. So, to reflect this 'erasure' I 'redacted' the first quote with red blocks, then used them to cover faces in the photography and for all pull-out quotes throughout the document.

Covering their eyes also helped to hide the identity of those featured in the report to avoid future recrimination.

PLEASE NOTE: due to the highly explicit nature of the content in this report - which some readers may find distressing, the images on this page are not clickable.
